Metro Detroit receives federal grants to spark business (Detroit News, 1/8/08)
Detroit Renaissance has received a $282,000 federal grant to help develop A Creative Corridor along Woodward Avenue.
The money will be used to attract creative businesses and is part of the larger Road to Renaissance initiative, officials with the nonprofit Detroit Renaissance said in a press release. The initiative still is in the planning stages.
Detroit Renaissance's funding comes as a host of other Metro Detroit business accelerators received federal grants. Automation Alley in Oakland County received $2 million and Wayne and Macomb counties each received $282,000 to start up business-generating efforts. Ann Arbor SPARK received $282,000 as part of the funding.
The Economic Development Coalition of Southeast Michigan secured the funding with the help of area elected officials. Coalition members said the funding was a direct result of the coalition seeking funding as a group as opposed to individual requests.
